David Catching’s 65th birthday at Pappy & Harriet’s felt less like a concert and more like a gathering of the desert music community. Friends, musicians, and familiar faces filled one of Pioneertown’s most storied rooms for a night celebrating a musician and producer whose fingerprints are all over the sound of the high desert.

With Gnarltones, Quintron and Miss Pussycat bringing the music, the night had all the things I love photographing—people packed close to the stage, flashes of movement and color, old friends crossing paths, and moments happening everywhere you looked. A birthday party, a rock show, and a little piece of desert music history all at once.
